That game turned out to be what was temporarily called Zelda: Gaiden, which was then briefly named Zelda: Mask of Majora, and finally the title Zelda: Majora's Mask was set in stone. The follow-up title was promised to run on the acclaimed Ocarina of Time game engine, and would even be enhanced by use of the 4MB expansion pak. In May of 1999 IGN64 brought you the news that Nintendo was underway with a sequel that would hit the N64 in a big way with a whole new world and set of temples to explore. The question was would Nintendo deliver N64 owners one more blissful Zelda experience before the console faded away? There was the secretive Ura-Zelda title for the 64DD, but it didn't look like that would find its way to America and on top of that it was merely just an expansion of The Ocarina of Time's world. and Japan on Februin both physical and digital formats (via the Nintendo eShop).Nintendo sold millions upon millions of those precious gold carts regardless of the N64's inadequate user-base. A remake for the Nintendo 3DS, titled The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, was released in the U.S. Majora's Mask was later released on the Nintendo GameCube on Novemas part of The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition and on the Wii Virtual Console service on April 7, 2009. The many masks, in addition to the time system, make Majora's Mask one of the most unique games in the Zelda series. Majora's Mask added a varied assortment of magical masks to Link's arsenal, which upon being worn, would bestow special powers upon Link. Majora's Mask required the Expansion Pak in order to function, allowing for more detailed graphics and more characters per area. The implementation of the new time limit system was flawless and added much to the depth of the game. ![]() While Majora's Mask was based on the same engine of its predecessor, it added a very vivid Japanese art design, and a new "72-hour" game system, wherein Link has a set amount of time to complete each dungeon or task. Majora's Mask introduced the world to the unique artistic bent of director Eiji Aonuma, who would later return to direct such games as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask ( ゼルダの伝説 ムジュラの仮面, Zelda no Densetsu: Mujura no Kamen ?) is the sequel to Nintendo's 1998 smash hit The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. ![]()
